Position Title: Orthodontic Assistant

Hours: 31-32 Hours per Week
Reports To: Dr. Volovic
Position Overview
Volovic Orthodontics is seeking a motivated and compassionate Orthodontic Assistant to support high-quality clinical care and deliver an excellent patient experience. This role assists Dr. Volovic during orthodontic procedures, prepares treatment areas, and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout their visit. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, team-focused, and enjoys working with patients in a fast-paced orthodontic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operatories, instruments, and materials for orthodontic procedures
Greet and seat patients while providing a welcoming and comfortable experience
Remove and place archwires, elastomers, separators, and orthodontic appliances
Prepare teeth for bonding procedures (clean, etch, prime, maintain dry field)
Seat and adjust retainers and cement fixed retainers
Take orthodontic records including panoramic and cephalometric radiographs, photos, impressions, and digital scans
Educate patients on braces care, oral hygiene, and treatment expectations
Maintain accurate documentation and communicate treatment updates to the front desk team
Sterilize instruments and operatories following OSHA and infection control guidelines
Fabricate retainers and mouthguards when needed
Maintain inventory of orthodontic supplies and ensure operatories remain fully stocked
Assist with equipment maintenance and report any malfunctioning equipment
Support overall clinical workflow and help maintain a clean and organized back office
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a dental assisting program preferred
Valid dental radiology license required
Knowledge of infection control and OSHA guidelines
Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced clinical setting
Team-oriented with a positive, patient-focused attitude
Physical Requirements
This position requires active movement throughout the day including standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Candidates must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for detailed clinical procedures. The role may involve lifting up to 25 lbs and occasional exposure to clinical chemicals, radiation, and moderate noise levels.
